In response to Krishna Swamy’s questions – to the extent adiyen is aware there is no age barrier in fact the younger one gets Samashrayanam and Bhara Nyaasam (as applicable) the better! In this day and age, we never know when our journey in the current body comes to an end and it will be good if we have already been able to perform Saranagathy!

This may be a golden opportunity to ask your parents to get their Samashrayanam done and take you along as well. Our Acharyans are oceans of compassion and will certainly grant your desire.

In response to Vidya’s question, there is a document called Ahara Niyamam which our beloved preceptor Sri Vedanta Desikan had compiled from the Vedas and Ramayana and such. Basically this document instructs on the list of food that one can eat or accept from people to develop and increase Saatvika gunam in us which will help us in going to Moksham. This is in Tamil and there are several translations to it as well.

Thank you for the article. Many get initiated with the samskaras and totally disregard thus an insult. One must get enlightened with knowledge before an acharya gives him a birth as sri vaishnavite.

very nice article. gives us full detail of samasrayanam. could you please let me know what are the donots after this samaskaram which we may be commiting unknowingly. like foods to be avoided, wearing only madi vasthiram? , eating out in hotels or other’s house (iyer or non-brahmins)… sorry this is not to offend anybody ….

Adiyen is studying B.E. course at bangalore. I have undergone “upanayanam”(2years have passed since then), but unfortunately I haven’t met my Aacharya yet!..

I’m eager to meet my Aacharya and undergo Samashrayanam but, there has not been good response from my family. They say that it is for the elders. Is there any age constraint for undergoing Samashrayanam?…..

note:
1). I’m a brahmin by birth,
(I’m not sure weather i can call myself a SriVaishnava without even seeing my Aacharya).
2).Even my parents hav not been administered with Samashrayanam!!…

Please answer my query and clear my doubt.

Adiyen Raghunath Parthasarathi has a small doubt. If anything is wrong, please forgive me. In the following part taken from “Samasrayanam”, it is printed as Sri Ghosti Purna for Peria Nambi.I think it is Sri Maha purna”. Is that right ? Please correct me If I am wrong.

The Sri Vaishnava SampradAyam has Lord NArAyanA as
the first AchAryA, followed by His belowed consort ‘Sri’(MahALakshmi), Sri Vishvaksenar (Commander in chief of Sri Vaikuntam), Saint ShatakopA (NammAzhvAr), Sri NAthamuni, Sri PundarIkAkshA (UyyakkondAr), Sri RAmamishrA (ManakkAl Nambi), Sri YAmunAchAryA, Sri Ghoshti PUrnA (Peria Nambi), Sri Bhagavad RAmAnujA, and so on down to our presentAchAryAs.
